A BELATED HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Right now, as always in January and for the rest of the winter, I’m at our home in Uruguay. I love our time here in general, but what makes it especially gratifying for me is that I can write without a lot of interruptions (except for the monk parakeets chattering outside my window). And as I’ve mentioned before, I like writing in the heat, though I have no clue why. Any guesses?

I hope your year is off to a promising start and that you have some nice plans ahead. What’s in store for you? Travel? A new hobby? A change in your home décor? Writing your own book? I’d love to hear.

Me in my office in Uruguay. I know – I’m not wearing black for a change, but sometimes I need to spice it up.

When I looked out my office window this week, I discovered monk parakeets having a picnic with palm tree fruit.

MY NEXT BOOK!

Speaking of book writing, I’ve got some exciting book news to share: My next stand-alone suspense novel, I CAME BACK FOR YOU, will be published early next year as part of new deal with Thomas & Mercer. It’s the story of a mother whose strength is tested when the man who murdered her daughter a decade earlier delivers a horrific deathbed message, throwing her life into a tailspin, and causing her to question what she knows about the murder – and even her daughter. I can’t wait to share it with you.

(Don’t worry, I’m still hard at work on another Bailey mystery.)

WHAT I’M WATCHING

Dalgliesh (Acorn)

I so enjoyed the third season of Dalgliesh on Acorn, with the brilliant British actor, Bertie Carvel. Do you love British procedurals with an old-fashioned feel? Then you will devour this, too! And you know what made the experience especially great for me? When I first posted about it on FB, I thought there were only two episodes but a fan, Pamela Thomas, let me know there were six. They just hadn’t loaded them yet. I was in heaven watching four more! So thank you, Pam!

Black Doves (Netflix)

If you like thrillers with a cheeky, humorous tone, you will be riveted by “Black Doves,” with the irresistible Keira Knightley. Keira, by the way, was on one of my bestselling Cosmo covers ever. Thus, there will always be a special place in my heart for her!

WHAT I’M COOKING

Chicken Parm without the breadcrumbs?! Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE sauteed chicken breasts coated in breadcrumbs, and I love the New York Times’ Melissa Clark’s recipe for Chicken Parmesan, which of course, involves chicken sautéed in breadcrumbs first and then baked with sauce and cheese. I found myself craving it lately, but there was a problem: I’d already had way too many carbs that week (pizza and pasta!). So I tried a slightly different approach.

I sautéed the chicken breasts in olive oil without breadcrumbs, just some smashed garlic cloves and thyme branches in the pan. And then I followed the recipe from there. The results? It was fantastic. If you want to avoid carbs one week, try this!!

All the best and until next time,

Kate White
